Do These 3 Things and Speed Up Recovery
Video Transcription below video
Dr. Sean Gimbert: “Hey, Dr. Sean Gimbert here. I want to go over three simple yet super effective things that you can do after an injury to help you get better, faster. And the first thing is so easy, yet so many people do not practice it- and it is being properly hydrated.”
“For adults, bare minimum, we have to be drinking 64 ounces of water per day and for you specifically I want you to be drinking half of your body weight in ounces per day. So for instance, if you weigh 200 pounds that would mean you would be drinking 100 ounces of water per day. One thing that I do in the morning that will help flush the system is that we’re going be starting with eight to sixteen ounces of water with fresh lemon juice, and we are going to be waiting at least 15 minutes before having any type of breakfast or other liquids. [This allows your body’s digestive system to “wake up” in a sense before having the stress of solid foods put on your system.]
“The second thing you are going to do is making sure that you’re sleeping enough. For an adult that is going to be in between seven and nine hours per day- that is recommended by the mayo clinic. If we are an infant, we would be sleeping up to 17 hours per day! The reason why infants are sleeping more, and children are sleeping more than adults, is because as the body is growing the body needs more time resting in order to make new tissues and new cells.”
“The same thing is true after you’re injured- the body needs more time as your you’re sleeping to recover and to build and make new cells which are replace the injured unhealthy cells. “
“The last thing is that you can practice an anti-inflammatory diet. Pro-inflammatory type foods are going to be things like corn oil, vegetable oil, trans fats and processed type foods. So we can substitute those with anti-inflammatory type foods; which some very simple ones that I’m going to give you today include garlic, pineapple which has bromelain in it, curcumin, and fresh fish which being here in Florida is very easy for us to get. All of those [anti inflammatory foods] are going to decrease swelling, decrease inflammation in the joints in help get you better faster from your injuries.”
We have anti-inflammatory supplements here that can help you along the way with having those in your diets. So thank you for watching- I hope you learned something try it out. I bet you are going to feel better because of it!”
