Chiropractic Adjusting Instruments Explained
Dr. Sean Gimbert:
I want to answer another common question that we get here in the office: what are these instruments that you use and what exactly do they do? So let’s start with the most common one you may see us use, and that’s called an activator. Now an activator is just an extension of Dr. Allison or my hand.
And what that does, when we engage it, creates an impulse that’s transferred from the instrument to the spine. And what that impulse does, it actually increases movement within the spine. We’re actually working on the joints either in the back or working from side to side If there’s a shifting or a twisting of the spine. And when we increase that motion, that takes pressure away from the joints and any nerves that are affected, and that helps you heal faster. It’s doing a very similar thing to our hands, but just as an extension of those hands.
So our second instrument that we use is one that plugs into the wall, an electric one. Now, this is affectionately called the drill by some people. By no means is it a drill. All it is, it’s just the same concept as the activator. It just makes a little impulse on the side of the neck. And this can do multiple impulses within a couple of seconds which works on a neurologic level. And it also helps to do the same thing as increasing motion into the spine. In review, they’re an extension of our hands. They’re just assisting us in getting the spine moving better, which in turn helps get you better.
I Hope that answers your questions about [chiropractic adjusting instruments explained]. We’ll see you on the next one.
